Traders from Tibet

Traders from Tibet
With their yaks, passing through the Sind Valley

Fred Bremner,  ~1895

"Traders from Kashmir are often to be met in the Sind Valley during the summer and autumn, on their way to the capital of Kashmir. The animals are short, sturdy bullocks known as Yaks and not unlike the Highland cattle in our own country. These people wil travel several hundred miles to dispose of their own mechandise and return to Ladakh with their Yaks laden with purchases to be disposed of in their own country. They are a hardy race and they are often to be met going through the valley singing and laughing in their own cheery way." (Forty Years, pp. 51-52)
