The Sikh Akalis are one section of the famous "fakirs" or native priests of India. Unlike many of these fakirs, their enthusiasm is of an active nature, and in times past, when the Sikhs were engaged in warfare, they frequently led the advancing army in person, fighting with great bravery and considerable disregard of their life.
