These shots were taken at Mohammad Ali Jinnah's Malabar Hill residence in Bombay during a meeting of the Working Committee of the Muslim League. Jinnah is running the meeting. The man shown smoking a cigarette is Sir Sikander Hayat Khan, then Chief Minister of the Punjab. His Unionist Party was in a tenuous alliance with the League at the time. The residence was Jinnah's home until 1947. It still stands, guarded by a chaukidar who chases away visitors. Jinnah's audio is taken from the speech he gave on independence day: "To the states beyond our borders we send out greetings and assure them that Pakistan will extend to them its most friendly cooperation in preserving peace." |
